Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's parents relocated to Louisiana in the early 1990s. Decker won a regional talent show performing a cover from Patsy's I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart at the age of just nine years old. At the age of 15, Decker lived in Georgia. She had started to write songs and was regularly making trips to Nashville and visiting record labels and music publishers looking for bargains. She was 17 when she met the representative from independent label Big Yellow Dog Records who began selling her songs to labels and artists. When Mercury Records president David Massey took a look at the demos, he handed her work to L.A. Reid head of the associated Island/Def Jam label group and Reid agreed to sign her up for an album deal. Then, in August of 2009 Decker made her debut self-titled album under the moniker Jessie James. Jessie James had a moderately impressive debut album. Wanted, a song taken from the album, made the Top 40 singles chart. Decker always thought of herself as a singer from the country genre, but the album's advertising and production was geared towards a more pop-oriented audience. Decker fought with the label to have greater control over her music, after two singles did not succeed. Her next release, Boys in the Summer was a more traditional album. Decker's sophomore album, which was announced under the title Daughter of a Gypsy or Sweet American Dreams was shelved by Mercury and, after the release of three singles did poorly in the charts of country music. Decker was released from her contract.
